We’ll know what’s next for Blizzard’s card game soon

Hearthstone League of Explorers

It’s been about three months now since Blizzard released Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods, the card game’s first big expansion for 2016. Now, if an invite we’ve received from Blizzard is to be believed, the next add-on for Hearthstone is set to be revealed next week.

In an e-mail sent to Polygon earlier tonight, Blizzard invited us to tune in to a stream on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel on Thursday, July 28, at 11:00 p.m. PT.

"We would be honored if you would join us for a once-in-a-lifetime event that will be full of magic and celebration," reads the invite. "We also have something very special in store for you!"

The invite goes on to mention an "unforgettable adventure," hinting heavily that the announcement will revolve around Hearthstone’s next single-player-focused adventure set. The game has had three previous adventures, which contain a smaller number of new cards than full expansions but come packed with challenging single-player boss encounters.

Blizzard has previously stated that their plan for Hearthstone moving forward is to release a big expansion at the start of each year, an adventure set in the middle of the year and another big expansion near the end of the year. Announcing the next adventure now would fit into that cycle.

It appears that this announcement will take place at (or at least during) ChinaJoy, a huge gaming convention happening in Shanghai beginning on July 28. That explains the late start time. The full invite we received can be viewed below.

We’ll be watching the stream along with everyone else next Thursday and will report back on all the details. In the mean time, you can check out our Whispers of the Old Gods launch celebration below, or our dozens of other Hearthstone videos at our YouTube playlist.
