Today at a San Diego Comic-Con panel titled "Warcraft: The Road to Legion," Blizzard Entertainment announced a new media platform it will be exploring for its World of Warcraft franchise. Beginning Aug. 1, the publisher will launch an audio drama titled Tomb of Sargeras, which will blend iconic music and sound effects from the series with prose.
Serving as a setup to the upcoming World of Warcraft: Legion expansion pack, Tomb of Sargeras will tell the story of how the orc warlock Guldan opens up portals to Azeroth, allowing an army of demons to journey through and attack the planet. It will play out over the course of four episodes that will be available free in podcast format.
The podcast feed for Tomb of Sargeras is now available to subscribe to on iTunes and other popular podcast platforms. Doing so will allow fans to listen to a free preview of the first episodes.
According to Blizzard's director of story and creative development James Waugh, the developer hopes to do more audio dramas in the future.
"We’re really excited about this internally," Waugh said. "If the community likes it, we’ll probably try to do more."
Legion is the sixth expansion pack for World of Warcraft and launches on Aug. 30 for Windows PC and Mac.
