Sonic Mania isn't the only Sonic the Hedgehog game that Sega has planned for 2017. At tonight's Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary celebration at San Diego Comic-Con, Sega also unveiled the first teaser for Project Sonic, a new game that seems to share some traits with Sonic Generations.
Project Sonic is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. It's also bound for Nintendo NX, Nintendo's still secretive next-generation gaming platform.
According to the game's teaser trailer, Project Sonic, like Sonic Generations, will feature two variations of Sonic the Hedgehog: his modern incarnation and the shorter, chubbier Sonic that hews more closely to the original character model from the Sega Genesis era.
Beyond that, the trailer doesn't offer too many specifics. It calls the game's setting "the darkest of times," and it shows Sonic sprinting through a dreary, ruinous world apparently destroyed by robots. The trailer encourages players to "join the resistance" and dates Project Sonic for holiday 2017.
