The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday to show off some new clips, introduce new actors and confirmed that Kurt Russell would be play the father of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt).
The focus of the sequel to James Gunn's 2014 surprise hit is Star-Lord's parentage and his journey with friends to discover just who his father really was. As it turns out, it's a guy named Ego. In the comics, Ego is a living planet who was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966. The character made his first appearance in Thor issue #132. Ego directly followed the creation and introduction of Galactus and signified Marvel's foray into the space age mythology.
A brief teaser of Russell in the film was shown to the 6,000 fans gathered in Hall H, but Marvel has not published that online.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
