The NFL Network and the NFL RedZone channel are coming directly to PlayStation Vue without the need for a cable subscription, the league and PlayStation announced yesterday.
PlayStation Vue is the streaming TV service that is available to PlayStation consoles, plus the Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast and Roku devices. Pricing was not mentioned, but the NFL Network promises that users will get the league's Thursday night game broadcasts, plus all the other programming on NFL Network.
NFL RedZone is a Sunday broadcast that switches among the league's afternoon games, rotating to those where a score is imminent or some other interesting play is developing.
Previously, to watch NFL Network or RedZone, users did so through an app that checked for an active NFL Network and RedZone subscription with a cable provider. This service will allow users to subscribe directly with the network, making it a true cord-cutting option. Microsoft has had the NFL Network and RedZone Channel available on Xbox One thanks to a very visible partnership with the league since the console's launch.
But no packaging was discussed — whether these will be à la carte choices only or if they will have bundled options with any of the PlayStation Vue subscription tiers, which range between $29.99 and $54.99 per month.
Subscribers to NFL Network and RedZone Channel on PlayStation Vue will also have access to these broadcasts through NFL.com and the league's mobile apps for iOS and Android.
