One of the saddest moments at this year's Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) speedrunning marathon happened last night during a run of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS.
Speedrunner EeveeSpirit was getting close to the end of their run — 24 minutes into what would be a 31 minute attempt — when their 3DS suddenly shut off, much to the disgruntled groans and surprised yells from the SGDQ crowd gathered. The moment it happens can be seen in the video below. At first, EeveeSpirit looks pretty confused, but once they've realized that their 3DS has died, they start frantically looking around. At one point, one of the organizers asks them to plug in the 3DS and keep going, to which EeveeSpirit replies, "I don't have a charger!"

Luckily, someone had a charger for EeveeSpirit to use and they still ended up completing the game in 31 minutes. EeveeSpirit took to Twitter following the run to address the battery issue and joked that the entire incident was a ploy to gain more followers on Twitch.
