Watch a speedrunner complete Castlevania: Symphony of the Night blindfolded

Mankind needs a savior such as this

In January, speedrunner romscout accomplished the impossible— finishing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in under 54 minutes, while blindfolded. Today, you can see him attempt that run again live on the speedrunning charity marathon Summer Games Done Quick.

Romscout is well-known for his speedruns of Symphony of the Night, having held world records in the game on several occasions. His personal best time while actually using his eyes is just under 17 minutes. Romscout also has a history with Games Done Quick, previously serving as its event director.

The blindfolded run of Symphony of the Night was one of SGDQ's most popular bonus run bid incentives— runs that would only be scheduled if fans donated enough money to vote them in. The run's goal was set at $15,000, one of the highest in the entire event, and was met just last night.

T-shirt retailer The Yetee made the clinching donation, earmarking a little over $11,000 of a $20,000 overall contribution specifically for romscout's blindfolded run. All donations to Summer Games Done Quick 2016 benefit Doctors Without Borders.

A portion of The Yetee's donation also went to a bid requiring speedrunner Grimelios to face Guacamelee's final boss while blindfolded, so it seems the higher-ups at The Yetee really enjoy making speedrunners' lives difficult in a very specific way.

Romscout's blindfolded Symphony of the Night speedrun will happen at 2:48 p.m. ET on Twitch. If you can't catch it live, all runs will be posted to YouTube about a day after they occur. You can also follow this link to donate to this year's SGDQ charity, Doctors Without Borders.
