Warner Bros. will release the new Tomb Raider film in theaters on March 16, 2018. The Hollywood Reporter said that the reboot, starring Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander, will take the place of an untitled, unannounced DC Comics film.
The film will release in both 3D and IMAX, according to THR.
A theatrical reboot of Tomb Raider has been in development for several years. Vikander signed on for the role of Lara Croft, originally played by on-screen by Angelina Jolie, back in April.
Roar Uthaug will direct the project, which is a co-production with Warner Bros., MGM and GK Films. It's said to draw inspiration from developer Crystal Dynamics' series of games, which star a new take on the classic character.
On the games front, the latest title in the series is Rise of the Tomb Raider. That game is slated to hit PlayStation 4 later this year after a yearlong exclusivity period on Windows PC and Xbox One.
