Battlefield 1 returns to the roots of modern combat with tanks and planes

“We want you to be scared of it”

DICE has released a new behind-the-scenes video of Battlefield 1 featuring new gameplay footage of the World War I era land and air vehicles coming to the title.

The Battlefield series has been known to place special emphasis on vehicular combat, and this upcoming entry will feature special player classes for operating the tanks and planes, respectively.

The video frames the game’s tanks as ultra-powerful rolling behemoths. According to multiplayer producer Andreas Morell, "We want it to be a big, physical, brutal beast that essentially dominates the battlefield, and you should be scared of it."

Battlefield 1 will also include a variety of different warplanes, reflecting the types of aircraft present at the time. Standard fighter planes, as well as twin-seaters and heavy bombers, will all make appearances in the final release. The video shows developers and artists from DICE spending time with real-life historical aircraft in order to best represent them in the game.

Battlefield 1 will launch on Oct. 21 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, although Xbox One owners will be able to play starting Oct. 13 on EA Early Access. For more on Battlefield 1, check out our article on everything we know about the game so far.
