Watch this Rogue One-inspired Empire Strikes Back trailer

Everything old is new again

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just months away from premiering, the anticipation for the film is still growing. For some Star Wars fans, that means finding ways to pay homage to their favorite franchise ahead of the movie's release.

Medley Weaver, an artist whose work can be found on DeviantArt, has cut a new, modern day trailer for The Empire Strikes Back in the style of Rogue One. Or, at least, the most recent Rogue One trailer that debuted during the Olympics on Thursday. The trailer hits most of the key elements from the 1980 film, but gives it an entirely new feel that makes it seem like the movie could be released in theaters next week and not stick out like a sore thumb.

Rogue One, which stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and a dozen others, follows a group of Rebel fighters as they attempt to steal the plans to the Death Star. The events of the film take place just before Episode IV. The film is being directed by Gareth Edwards.

Rogue One hits theaters Dec. 16.
