A guide to the magical creatures of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Some may seem familiar, and some are entirely new

Ahead of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's release in a few months, Warner Bros. has released a guide to the different types of creatures Harry Potter fans can hope to see in the film.

The guide, which was published in Entertainment Weekly, highlights a couple of different beasts and while some are entirely new to this specific magical property, there are others that avid Harry Potter readers will remember. For example, one of the beasts that will make an appearance in the film is the Niffler, which originally appeared in The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix. The tiny, honey badger-like creature likes to collect little trinkets and store them in the pouch toward the bottom of his belly. The Niffler and other creatures can be seen in the gallery below.

Some of those aforementioned other creatures, like the Swooping Evil and the Bowtruckle, are entirely new. The first one is capable of "sucking out brains" and is a cross between a butterfly and a reptile, according to the description. The second one is an adorable, plant-like creature that's described as being extremely loyal and incredibly shy.

Then there's the Thunderbird, which is a relative of the Hippogriff family (remember Buckbeak from The Prisoner of Azkaban?) and the Demiguise, a "primate-like creature" that has the ability to turn invisible on the fly. In fact, its the fur of Demiguises that's used to make an Invisibility Cloak, like the one that Harry received for Christmas in his first year at Hogwarts.

These are just a few of the creatures that Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has to track down when they become loose in New York. Other creatures can, of course, be read about in the book the movie is based on.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in theaters Nov. 17.
