NHL 17 drops the puck with the World Cup of Hockey

The video game arrives Sept. 13, the tournament begins Sept. 17

The 2016 World Cup of Hockey gets going on Sept. 17 and, how about that, NHL 17 hits consoles four days prior. EA Sports' hockey franchise features a World Cup mode, with all of the teams, and this Gamescom 2016 trailer showcases its features.

All eight teams in the tournament — Canada, the Czech Republic, Team Europe, Finland, Team North America, Russia, Sweden and the United States — are represented in NHL 17.

After a stumble following the game's debut on the new console generation, and a year spent recovering its footing, NHL 17 looks to restore the prestige that made the series one of sports video gaming's Big Four for more than a decade. For more, see our in-depth preview of what's coming in September.
