Yooka-Laylee gets adorable new Gamescom trailer

The platformer will be released next year

Playtonic Games' upcoming platform game, Yooka-Laylee, is set to release during the first quarter of 2017, and today at Gamescom, the studio released an adorable new trailer showing off the game's highlights.

The spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee's newest trailer showcases many of the mechanisms and features of the game that made the Rare title so popular when it was first released. Its mashup of Banjo Kazooie-inspired gameplay and the rich, colorful jungle atmosphere is also shown off pretty well in the trailer.

In Yooka-Laylee, players will have to collect the different pages of a book in order to progress to the next level. In many ways, it's similar to Banjo's method of having players collect different jigsaw pieces in order to go from level to level, but in an interview with Polygon back in June, Playtonic's Andy Robinson said that they didn't want the game to feel like a Banjo Kazooie ripoff. Robinson added that they were only going to bring certain aspects of Banjo to Yooka-Laylee, with the other gameplay mechanics 100 percent original to the title.

Yooka-Laylee is set to be released on Windows PC, iOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, Wii U and Xbox One in 2017.
