Pokémon developer Game Freak releases 2D platformer on Steam

The game is still in early access

Game Freak

The newest game from Game Freak, the studio behind the Pokémon franchise, is Giga Wrecker, released on Steam earlier today.

The game, which is still in Early Access, follows a cyborg girl through a world that has become thwarted by an army of evil robots. Players will take control of the character and through the power of "reconstructing debris and scraps into various weapons," take down as many robots as possible while progressing through the different levels.

According to Game Freak, the player will use the different types of rubble from walls they smash through to craft an assortment of weapons. Each weapon will be different from the last and will largely depend on the type of debris being used to construct it. Players will also be able to use a mixture of methods to get through levels, including exploiting the actual physics to reach higher points or find new methods of progressing forward.

Giga Wrecker is the second game Game Freak has released on Steam, following its action-platformer, Tembo the Badass Elephant, last July. The studio is also working on the two upcoming Pokémon games for the 3DS, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will be released Nov. 18.
