Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently shooting in Atlanta, and while director James Gunn has provided certain details on what fans can expect out of the next installment in the series, there are still a couple of secrets — including who the team will fight.
Now, thanks to new concept art provided to Empire Magazine, there’s a little more insight into that question. In the photo seen below, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Baby Groot, Star-Lord and Drax can be seen hurtling toward a giant monster that looks like an octopus infused with a dragon of some kind.

As far as we know, there isn’t a name for the creature, but it has been seen before. At San Diego Comic-Con, a brief trailer was shown off that included the scene above, with the Guardians taking on the monster. According to people in Hall H, the scene includes the not so safe for work banter that made the first one so appealing in the first place, which all takes place while the battle is happening.
As far as villains go, this monstrous being isn’t the only baddie they’ll be facing off against, nor is it the main one. The alien Ayesha is out for the Guardians’ blood in Vol. 2 and Yondu’s team of Ravagers is still trying to hunt down the misfit crew. Although, Gunn told Empire that they won’t be as too big of a threat as they were in the first movie as they’re left dealing with some inner turmoil within their own group.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reunites Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Zoe Kravitz and Bradley Cooper. It’s scheduled to be released May 5, 2017.
