Netflix in September: Everything that’s coming and going

Marvel’s television empire on Netflix is continuing to blossom with the debut of Luke Cage set to occur at the end of September. Cage, the third superhero Marvel is introducing to audiences as part of the studio’s five-series deal with Netflix, follows Daredevil’s second season and Jessica Jones’ first.

Although the series marks the debut of Cage as a main character in the small screen universe, this isn’t the first time that fans will have seen Cage in action. The character had a role in Jessica Jones’ first season, but this time around, Cage is moving back to Harlem and dealing with the crime wave occurring there.

Last month, Luke Cage star Mike Colter talked to Polygon about playing a reluctant hero and how the show will differ from Jessica Jones. While it will exist within its own right, Colter said that there will be crossover for fans of both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, with Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple set to make an appearance in the series. Luke Cage premieres in full on Sep. 30 at 3 a.m. ET.

The month marks a big one for fans of television in general, with new seasons of The Walking Dead, New Girl, Luther, Penny Dreadful and more making their way to the service. Netflix original series Narcos will also debut its second season on Sept. 2 in full for those looking to get their hands on the next chapter in the Pablo Escobar drama.

Film buffs shouldn’t worry about being left out in the cold, either, however. Disney’s lovable and triumphant Zootopia will debut on the service in September, as will films like the Academy Award-nominated The Imitation Game. Other classic films like Footloose, Top Gun and Jaws will be available to stream in September.
