New gameplay from Vampyr, the upcoming action role-playing title from Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment, shows how players will stalk and kill their prey through investigation and conversation.
Vampyr takes place in 1918 London, where the city’s populus is being ravaged by an outbreak of influenza. The events of the game are based on the real-life flu pandemic, which occurred during the same time and infected around 500 million people across the world. The player takes control of Jonathan E. Reid, a doctor-turned-vampire who must choose who to kill in order to survive.
The new trailer shows off how integral the plague will be to the game’s story and mechanics. Jonathan has the ability to sense each character’s blood quality and see whether they are affected by an illness. The player can further investigate individuals by eavesdropping on conversations and finding clues. In the final version of the game, every character the player kills will affect the game world in some way.
The game’s combat is also shown, which involves lots of machete swinging and blood drinking — as well as some bone-crunching vampire magic.
