Valkyria: Azure Revolution will launch in Japan on PlayStation Vita alongside the PlayStation 4 version. Sega confirmed the handheld release as well as the game’s release date — Jan. 19, 2017 — in a new trailer.
The Vita version is priced lower than its PS4 companion, but the handheld game is otherwise full-featured. It’s also unclear why the announcement of a portable release comes so much after Valkyria: Azure Revolution’s initial reveal; developer Media Vision’s most recent project, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, also received a simultaneous launch on both platforms.
The game is the next entry in the Valkyria series of tactical role-playing games, following PlayStation 3’s Valkyria Chronicles and PlayStation Portable’s Valkyria Chronicles 2. A demo from earlier this summer debuted a faster-paced style of gameplay than its predecessors, however, which longtime fans did not take kindly to. They’ll get another chance to check out the game later this September in a new, "version 2.0" demo. The developer has also revamped the combat to be more similar to the rest of the series.
A Western launch hasn’t been confirmed for Valkyria: Azure Revolution, but a trademark was registered for it in English back in November. A PS4 remaster of the first game came stateside in May.
