Watch the trailer for the surprise Blair Witch Project sequel

First announced at Comic-Con

Back at San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July, it was revealed that Adam Wingard’s upcoming horror movie, The Woods, was actually a sequel to the iconic 1999 film, The Blair Witch Project.

Simply called Blair Witch, the movie will follow a new group of friends as they venture into the notorious woods they had heard so much about. The film will not only act as a proper sequel to The Blair Witch Project, but will apparently tie up some loose ends that were never answered in the original. It will also provide fans with some more information about that infamous last scene from the original film that is still widely regarded as one of the best closing shots in horror movie history.

The first trailer for the film, which can be seen above, focuses mainly on one of the female characters in the movie, but it is definitely an ensemble-heavy project. One of the male leads will play the brother of Heather, who appeared in the original film, determined to find out what happened to his sister 17 years ago.

Blair Witch will hit theaters Sep. 16.
