The Halo franchise’s iconic armored jeep, the Warthog, will be driveable in the upcoming open world racing game, Forza Horizon 3.
This is the first time in any Forza game that players will be able to drive the Warthog. The UNSC’s light recon vehicle did make an appearance in Forza Motorsport 4. However, it was only unlockable through the game’s Autovista mode, which — and you’ll know this if you speak Italian — allows the player to look at a car without actually taking it for a spin. The Warthog could also be unlocked in the Xbox One version of Rocket League.
The Warthog appearing in Forza Horizon 3 may not be immediately recognizable to long-time Halo fans, however. This version of the vehicle is the civilian edition of what is typically a military transport. Thus, it lacks the giant chaingun, gauss cannon or missile launcher typically mounted in the back. The Warthog has the best suspension of any car in the game, so it’s well-suited to treacherous terrain.
Anyone who has played Halo 5: Guardians or Halo: The Master Chief Collection will receive a free download code for Forza Horizon 3’s Warthog starting the week of Sept. 5. Players who haven’t logged time in either Halo game will get a chance to snag the Warthog in a special Forzathon event some time in October.
Forza Horizon 3 launches on Windows PC and Xbox One Sept. 27.
