Get a peek at Resident Evil 7’s green herbs

Unappetizing

Capcom has made a few things clear about Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the company’s back to basics approach to its survival horror franchise: the company isn’t saying much about it, in an attempt to keep the game’s particulars mysterious; it won’t feature superhero action stars or quicktime events; and some classic Resident Evil hallmarks will return.

Just like in the first Resident Evil, green herbs will be one of the items players will use to heal damage. Today, Capcom showed Resident Evil Ambassadors — fans who signed up to receive Capcom’s newsletter — what those healing items will look like.

Like the rest of Resident Evil 7, there’s a dingy, rustic vibe to game’s green herbs and ointments. Capcom also teased the importance of a mysterious coin in the image sent out to Resident Evil Ambassadors.

It’s not the first time Capcom has teased Resident Evil’s most die-hard fans about a Resident Evil 7 mystery and it likely won’t be the last. Current speculation from Resident Evil fans is that the coin is either a piece of currency (hinting at an in-game vendor), a means to save the game or something else entirely. Given the puzzle-based nature of Resident Evil 7’s demo and its well-hidden secrets, it could be anything.

Perhaps we’ll learn more at Tokyo Game Show next month, where Capcom will have a presence.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard is scheduled to hit PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in January.
