Overwatch players exploiting a bug in Lúcioball may face consequences

Lúcio, you’ve got some ‘splainin to do...

Some players of Overwatch’s new summer game mode Lúcioball have been exploiting a glitch that allows them to use heroes other than Lúcio, for which the mode is intended. According to game director Jeff Kaplan, those players may soon face some consequences for their rule bending.

After a thread on the forums was created regarding the bug, Kaplan left this comment:

Apologies for this bug. We've attempted to fix it numerous times and have had unrelated issues preventing the fix. We hope to have a fix this week.

In the meantime, we are in discussions with our Customer Support group to start taking action against those deliberately using the bug to play heroes other than Lucio.

Please do not exploit this bug. Fair warning.

The game bug in question was discovered by players last week, some of whom posted YouTube videos of the exploit in action. While the glitch doesn’t allow players to choose which character to compete as, it can lead to a significant advantage in a mode meant specifically for Lúcio. Blizzard has previously stated that Overwatch players caught cheating will be permanently banned on their first offense.

In addition to Lúcioball, Overwatch’s Olympics-inspired Summer Games event features over 100 unique items, at least one of which will be included in every loot box. The event will run through Aug. 22.
