Michael Fassbender is gearing up for the release of Assassin’s Creed, in which he stars as Callum Lynch, the descendant of a skilled assassin who existed centuries before him. Today, the studio released a batch of new photos starring Fassbender in his assassin robes as he travels back in time to explore the world his relative ruled.
The photos, which can be seen below, show off Fassbender in both the modern era and the renaissance period that his assassin forefather, Aguilar, inhabited. In the film, Fassbender’s Lynch uses the information he gathers from exploring Aguilar’s memories to take on the powerful and corrupt Templar organization that has manipulated world history for centuries.
Although all of the characters in the movie are original, the film takes most of of its influence from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. Director Justin Kurzel told Coming Soon that the movie is an origin story, but fans of the series will see the spirit and heart of the game from beginning to end.
Assassin’s Creed, which stars Fassbender alongside Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, hits theaters Dec. 21.
