World of Final Fantasy, the upcoming chibi spin-off of Square Enix’s storied role-playing game series, has achieved something nearly impossible. By embracing over-the-top adorableness to the point of self-parody, it has become a game that is basically impossible to make fun of in any meaningful way.
This strange spin on Final Fantasy clearly isn’t for everyone, but what can you honestly say to mock the tone and style of this game? Whatever you might come up with, World of Final Fantasy has clearly already accepted with open arms. It’s a game that’s about being as cute as hell, and it’s not trying to be anything more.
As in previous trailers, this new footage from Tokyo Game Show highlights some ultra-cute iterations of mainstay FF characters, such as Shiva and Ifrit. Even series badasses like Odin and that damn Malboro look like they’d be great for cuddles in this game.
The trailer promises a special Sephiroth summon for pre-orders. Could even Final Fantasy 7’s timeless villain become a lovable snugglebuddy when transformed through the World of Final Fantasy machine? Time will tell.
