There’s an animated film based on Resident Evil heading to theaters next spring, and its debut trailer promises that it won’t skimp on scares. Marza Animation Planet is working with Capcom on Resident Evil: Vendetta, and the veteran studio seems to have nailed the translation from console to big-screen.
It’s a short teaser, but fans will appreciate seeing Chris Redfield and, more briefly, Leon Kennedy in action. There are also plenty of zombies to be seen — and slain — throughout the 90-second look. Don't be afraid to watch through your fingers; things get intense, despite the trailer's brief runtime.
In October, Capcom announced that a computer-generated Resident Evil film was heading to theaters. A Japanese theatrical debut has been confirmed, as has international distribution for Vendetta. Whether that includes a stint in theaters stateside remains unannounced.
Capcom first unveiled the trailer during its Tokyo Game Show event, which paid tribute to the 20-year-old survival horror franchise. Although Vendetta’s spring 2017 debut means it’s arriving a bit late to be counted as part of the birthday plans, Capcom has spent the year devoting plenty of time to Resident Evil. The company announced PlayStation VR-compatible title Resident Evil 7 biohazard at E3 2016. Re-releases of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 also launched on current-gen hardware this year, ahead of RE7's reveal.
