Watch Rez Infinite’s new level, Area X, for the first time

This VR reboot isn’t just a simple cut-and-paste job

Rez Infinite is more than a straight remake of the original Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 title. Above, developer Enhance Games debuts a new section of the upcoming, VR-compatible PlayStation 4 title, which should get Rez superfans amped up.

Area X is a sixth level exclusive to Infinite, which ships with the original five areas as well. The trailer makes the new level look instantly familiar to players of the original game, but in the best way possible. Fifteen years after the first game launched, designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi hasn’t lost his touch for psychedelic light shows and great music.

Although Rez Infinite supports the PlayStation VR headset, it’s playable in standard reality too. Either way, the remake benefits from 1080p resolution and 360-degree audio, making Rez a far more immersive experience on modern hardware than in its original release.

We checked out Rez Infinite at Tokyo Game Show last week. We’ll have more on that experience later. For now, feel free to replay the trailer until the game launches on Oct. 13.
