Sega and Westone’s classic side-scrolling arcade game Wonder Boy is coming to Steam this fall in the form of a remake, Wonder Boy Returns. Developed by Korean company CFK, Wonder Boy Returns will feature redrawn and redesigned characters, as well as new levels and monsters.
Wonder Boy Returns’ new content has been supervised by its original creator, according to CFK. You can see the remake’s new cartoonish art style in its debut trailer above, which shows that the classic action of the original Wonder Boy appears mostly unchanged.
Fans of the Wonder Boy (and Monster World) series will be very well taken care of over the next year or so. Wonder Boy Returns is the third Wonder Boy-inspired game on the way, joining Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap (a remake of Wonder Boy 3) and Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (previously known as Monster Boy and the Wizard of Booze and before that Flying Hamster 2: Knight of the Golden Seed).
The original Wonder Boy was developed by Escape — now Westone Bit Entertainment — and released by Sega in 1986.
