Destiny: Rise of Iron Easter egg pays tribute to 'Randal the Vandal'

He's properly tough, too, not a mistake

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

A particularly tough enemy from the original iteration of Destiny is memorialized with an Easter egg in the new Rise of Iron expansion that launched last week.

Rahndel the Perfected is an homage to "Randal the Vandal," the fan name given to a level 8 Reaver vandal who had abnormally high health and attack ratings and was unusually tough to bring down.

Rahndel shows up in the Wrath of the Machine raid, which was beaten all of two hours after it was set live on Friday. The YouTubers above know Rahndel's lineage as soon as they see his name. "It's Randal the fuckin' Vandal!" gasps one.

But Randal the Vandal is no more, at least in his original form, that is. At some point a patch fixed his out-of-whack health and attack and he can be subdued as a level 8 reaver vandal should be. Rahndel appears to be a tough old bastard, though, carrying on the legacy in a proper way.
