Beyond Good & Evil 2 — a sequel to the cult classic PlayStation 2-era adventure game Beyond Good & Evil — was announced in 2008. Since then, hardcore fans of the first game (like myself) have been left waiting and wondering what’s happening with the sequel, as Ubisoft has released approximately zero new details.
Today, for the first time in eight years or so, that has changed. Michel Ancel, the game designer behind Beyond Good & Evil, posted a new piece of artwork to his Instagram account teasing the long-awaited sequel. You can see the full image here.
A link to the teaser was also tweeted out by Ubisoft’s French Twitter account. A translation of that tweet reads: "Michel Ancel has an Instagram account, and we advise you to follow closely."
Since the initial reveal of Beyond Good & Evil 2, both Ubisoft and Ancel have been silent on the game, beyond confirming that it’s still in the works. Most recently, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented at E3 2016 earlier this year that the game is "still coming."
Michel Ancel, meanwhile, is also working on Wild, a game he’s creating with a new non-Ubisoft-affiliated indie studio. In 2014, Ancel said that he was staying at Ubisoft while working with the indie team, and would continue work on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
Polygon has reached out to Ubisoft about what the teaser art means and when we can expect to hear more. We’ll update if we get any further details.
