New Avengers set photo shows off Josh Brolin’s Thanos

He might do more than sit around this time

Thanos Marvel

The last couple of Avengers movies have all worked together to do one thing: introduce the importance of collecting the Infinity Stones and set the stage for the superhero team’s big fight with Thanos.

Thanos, who has largely been seen sitting down in completely CGI-constructed scenes, will return for Avengers: Infinity War. Based on the name of the third installment in the Avengers franchise, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo of Captain America: Civil War fame, it looks like this may finally be the moment that the Avengers get to actually meet Thanos.

The Russos shared a new set photo, which can be seen below, featuring actor Josh Brolin in his motion capture suit. The directors didn’t say anything about the image, instead just capturing it "Rehearsal," but it does appear like Brolin’s character, which also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy, will get to do a little more than just sit around and look menacing in Infinity War.

After the events of Civil War, which split the Avengers team in half, it’ll take a villain like Thanos to reunite them all and defend their world. Last month, actor Vin Diesel confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy cast would be making an appearance in the film. It’s unclear if other Marvel superheroes, like Black Panther or Doctor Strange, will also make their Avengers debut with Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released May 4, 2018.
