Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained delayed to 2018

The Metroidvania game is being pushed back a year

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the upcoming Metroidvania-style game from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night assistant director Koji Igarashi, has been delayed to the first half of 2018. The release date was originally set for March 2017.

In an update on the game’s YouTube channel, Igarashi stated "Things have been progressing with development for Bloodstained, but between our current production setup and release deadline, I’ve realized that at this rate, the game may not end up meeting my quality standards."

Igarashi added that he is in the process of bringing on another development team in order to "keep the game fully on track for how I envision it."

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was funded through Kickstarter and, after topping $4.25 million in contributions last year, became the most funded video game on the site. As of today, the game has pulled in more than $5.5 million from backers.

When Bloodstained launches, it will be available for Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Windows PC and Xbox One.
