2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did some things well, most things poorly, and made a whole lot of money at the box office while setting up the first Justice League film. The film also — and I don’t think this requires a spoiler warning at this point but consider this your warning — “killed off” the titular Superman while hinting that his condition might be temporary.
"Superman does play a big part in this movie," Snyder said. "His presence and lack of presence, are big story points..."
It’s not much to go on, but it looks like the lack of Superman may be one of the things driving the film’s plot until he returns in what we can only assume is a blaze of glory to finish off whoever it is the Justice League is fighting at that moment in time.
What we don’t know is how exactly he’ll be brought back, and why Wonder Woman wasn’t the one who carried the kryptonite spear in the first movie. But a scene released after Batman v Superman hit theaters teased either Darkseid or showed the first appearance of Steppenwolf, who is the confirmed villain in Justice League.
Justice League will be released on November 17 of this year.
