The Nintendo Switch’s biggest selling point is that it’s a home console that you can take on the go. That’s never been more clear than in a new television commercial for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, produced for German-speaking markets.
The ad, above, doesn’t waste any time getting to the Switch’s main attraction. As soon as it starts, we find ourselves in ... a Nintendo Switch owner’s bathroom. More than that, the player is seated comfortably on the toilet, where he’s getting in some quality Mario Kart 8 time.
We have to appreciate the honesty on display here. One of the obvious perks of a handheld gaming system is that it lets you play games on the go — literally. While Nintendo has spent more time highlighting the Switch’s other two modes, which don’t work quite as well while visiting the Whizz Palace, this ad’s an important reminder that the Switch is just as viable as a handheld as it is a home console.
In fact, we played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch tablet at a recent media event, and it was definitely as much fun as checking it out on the big screen. We’ve yet to test out the Switch from a water closet, however. We look forward to the system’s March 3 release, when we can better explore how it fares in all sorts of locations.
