The Deus Ex franchise is going on hiatus, according to several sources who spoke to Eurogamer and Kotaku. Instead, those familiar with its developer say, developer Eidos Montreal will prioritize work on other games, including those in Square Enix’s Marvel project.

There’s no timeline for when Eidos Montreal will begin work on the next Deus Ex installment, with Kotaku reporting that a follow-up to last year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been canceled outright.

The studio has other projects in active development, most notably a new Tomb Raider game. That project is likely called Shadow of the Tomb Raider, based on what appeared to be a leak of a team member’s files that went viral last fall.

There’s also Square Enix’s new collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, which the companies announced last week. Eidos Montreal is known to be helping out Crystal Dynamics on the multi-game production. One of those games is based on Marvel’s The Avengers franchise, but there’s also an adaptation of the Guardians of the Galaxy universe in the works, according to reports.

Square Enix is prioritizing the Marvel collaboration, although the publisher said we won’t hear more about those games until 2018. As for Deus Ex, fans may be dismayed that the ambiguous ending for the well-received Mankind Divided will not be resolved for quite some time.
