Resident Evil Revelations for Nintendo Switch includes exclusive retro minigames

Including a Ghosts ‘n Goblins homage

The Nintendo Switch versions of Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil Revelations 2 will include a pair of minigames exclusive to that version, Capcom announced today. One of those minigames, Ghouls ‘n Homunculi, is a Resident Evil-infused homage to Capcom classic Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

Ghouls ‘n Homunculi will be included as part of Resident Evil Revelations 2. The “8-bit throwback” sees Resident Evil mainstay Barry Burton stepping in for Arthur the knight, and slaying zombies and other gruesome creatures on a deadly island.

Here’s a look at Ghouls ‘n Homunculi in action:

The original Resident Evil Revelations on Switch will include a minigame of its own that, while admittedly less impressive, is interesting in the way that it will be played. Titled Ghost Ship Panic, the game is a score attack target shooter. Players shoot Resident Evil Revelations’ brand of ooze zombies in an effort to build up combos and earn points.

And look, Ghost Ship Panic doesn’t look great — at least not as charming as Ghouls ‘n Homunculi — but it is playable during loading screens. That’s something that wasn’t possible for most games until November 2015, because Namco held a patent on loading screen games for 20 years.

Here’s a look at some Ghost Ship Panic gameplay:

Both Ghost Ship Panic and Ghouls ‘n Homunculi will give players Battle Points, the currency used in the Resident Evil Revelations games’ Raid Modes.

Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil Revelations 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 28. The games are available separately for download. The retail version includes a game card with Resident Evil Revelations and a download code for Resident Evil Revelations 2.
