Netflix and Media Rights Capital are developing multiple ideas for a House of Cards spinoff, reports Variety.
One of those ideas currently in development is reportedly built around Michael Kelly’s Doug Stamper, with House of Cards’ executive producer Eric Roth attached as a writer on the series. Stamper, one of fans’ most beloved characters, has acted as Frank Underwood’s dependable right-hand man since the series began. The other development ideas remain unknown, but will be set in the House of Cards universe.
The news comes just after Netflix announced that House of Cards would end after its sixth season. The decision was made months ago, representatives told TVLine, too early to be motivated by recent sexual misconduct allegations against series lead, Kevin Spacey.
By extending the life of its long-running, critically acclaimed show through spinoffs, Netflix is following a path currently being bushwhacked by HBO on its own massively popular series, Game of Thrones. Polygon has also reached out to Netflix for confirmation but representatives declined to comment.
