Marvel replacing pulled Punisher panel at NYCC with Stan Lee documentary

Marvel has announced that it will stream the first screening of Joe Quesada Presents: My Chat with Stan Lee on Oct. 7 at New York Comic Con following the removal of Netflix’s Punisher panel.

Joe Quesada Presents: My Chat with Stan Lee focuses on an interview between Marvel’s chief creative officer Joe Quesada and the comic publisher’s iconic writer and creator, Stan Lee. The interview took place at the Paley Center this past April and was done in conjunction with The Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization that helps comic book writers and artists in need. According to the description of the documentary provided by New York Comic Con organizers, Lee will field “questions that he has rarely been asked and reveals never-before-heard stories and thoughts on some of the greatest moments in his personal life, professional career, and the history of Marvel.”

Netflix and Marvel announced that they were pulling The Punisher panel on Thursday, citing the recent tragedy in Las Vegas that left more than 50 people dead and hundreds injured. In a statement to Polygon, the companies said it would be inappropriate to hold the panel. The full statement can be read below:

We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn't be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.

The screening of Joe Quesada Presents: My Chat with Stan Lee will take place on Oct. 7 from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. Quesada will present the screening. It will be held at The Theater and Madison Square Garden.
