Watch the Nintendo World Championships 2017 here

See speedrunners and competitive gamers duke it out

The Nintendo World Championships will return for a new round of competition today in New York City. If you’re unable to attend in person, Nintendo will be livestreaming the event on its YouTube and Twitch channels.

Today’s livestream kicks off at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT.

The 2017 Nintendo World Championships will feature 24 players competing in a variety of games, including the recently released Nintendo 3DS game Metroid: Samus Returns. Qualifiers had to compete in regional tournament in titles like Mario Kart 7 for 3DS to prove their gaming chops. John Numbers, who won the 2015 Nintendo World Championships, will return to compete in this year’s tournament.

The original Nintendo World Championships event took place back in 1990 and pitted players against each other in the NES games Rad Racer, Super Mario Bros. and Tetris. Nintendo brought the tournament back in 2015 to kick off that year’s E3.
