The Elusive Target was Hitman’s distinguishing trait: A contract would enter the game, be available for a limited time, and the player got only one crack at them. Make the hit, miss it, or miss the window in which it was offered, and the whole show was over.
Elusive Targets are back for an encore in Hitman, beginning on Friday with The Forger, a replay of the first target. This coincides with the Game of the Year Edition that launched on Nov. 7 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
The catch is that anyone who already has the game, and who already attempted an Elusive Target mission — that is, even tried it — does not get another shot. This is only for those new to the game or who never undertook the mission in the first go around.
And like the first round of Elusive Targets, once they’re reactivated, they’re only around for a limited time. So if you didn’t blot out The Forger the first time, you best get to work, 47.

The Elusive Targets are back for another go around now that IO Interactive is in charge of publishing the franchise, following Square Enix’s separation from it back in the summer. A four-mission mini-campaign, “Patient Zero,” is also part of the re-release. More details on what the GOTY edition involves are here.
