Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are back to their old tricks, teasing the much anticipated Avengers: Infinity War trailer on Instagram with an ominous image.
The Russo Brothers posted a somewhat disturbing photo of an animated giant number 3 in a ridiculous pose. The photo doesn’t come with an accompanying caption, but after clips from the Infinity War trailer leaked online this past weekend, it’s evident what the Instagram post is alluding to.
Questions about whether the Russo Brothers meant three days or three weeks began popping up in Reddit and on Twitter, with some people guessing as to what made the most sense for Disney. It’s been long rumored that the Infinity War trailer would play with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, especially considering both properties are subsidiaries of Disney, but that doesn’t mean Disney or Marvel Studios will wait until The Last Jedi’s release date to debut the trailer.
It only takes a cursory glance at a calendar to figure out when the Russo Brothers are planning to drop the trailer. Three weeks from now is Dec. 18, three days after the release of The Last Jedi. It doesn’t make any sense for Disney to release the trailer after The Last Jedi, which makes three days from now a much more appropriate guess.
There’s also precedence from Marvel for this kind of release window. The trailer for Captain America: Civil War was released on Nov. 25, almost six months before the release of the movie. Infinity War is slated to be released on May 4, making a trailer debut this week more than likely.
The date for the trailer coincides with earlier comments from Marvel Studios executive producer Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D’Esposito. Both Feige and D’Esposito confirmed the trailer would be different from the version screened earlier this year at Disney’s biennial D23 convention and San Diego Comic-Con, and released before the year came to an end.
Multiple, leaked short clips of the tailer without audio were posted on Vimeo over the weekend, and seem to reiterate that the trailer is ready to be published. Like we recommended earlier this year, when the SDCC trailer was leaked in full online, wait for the official trailer to drop instead of searching out various clips. If the trailer is anything like the SDCC and D23 footage, it’s better to enjoy in hi-res — and with audio.
As to what time the trailer will be released, keep an eye on Marvel’s main Twitter account or Facebook page for an official update.
Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018.
