Star Wars Battlefront 2 leak shows character customization options

Apparently coming to the game in the future

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

A dataminer with a history of digging up Star Wars Battlefront leaks has found what appears to be a character customization menu within the PC version of the game.

The menu was discovered by a Redditor named uninspired_zebra, who apparently is combing through files in the PC version of the game. The menu is not currently accessible in Battlefront 2. But it shows a “Change Appearance” option in the Assault character class that allows the user to change their look across the game’s six factions, with different looks inside those categories.

The video shows Galactic Republic clone troopers with eight different skins, six based on legion numbers and two on planetary locations. Rebel Alliance assault characters had seven options, five of them human, one a Sullustan and another a Nikto.

Polygon reached out to uninspired_zebra to ask more questions about what they discovered in the menu, and how. Polygon also reached out to an Electronic Arts representative to inquire when customization options would be coming to the game.

Character customization was a part of 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront but not Battlefront 2 at its launch on Nov. 17. In a Reddit AMA on Nov. 15, developers for EA DICE told players they were aware they wanted customization options and said, “It’s on our list of things we’re looking at daily,” advising them to “stay tuned.”

Yesterday, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen was asked at an investor panel why customization options did not figure more into Battlefront 2’s controversial loot crate system, as opposed to using player progression items which many users have found off-putting. Jorgensen replied that EA was limited by the well defined Star Wars canon in what it could do or offer with regard to customization.
