Destiny 2’s second Faction Rally event is live, and with it, a new way to cheese through it. Last week, developer Bungie nerfed a method that people had been using to farm faction tokens during the previous Faction Rally — so players simply came up with something else this time.
The new farming technique comes from a Destiny YouTuber who goes by Houndish. Here’s how it works:
- Spawn into the Winding Cove area of Earth’s European Dead Zone, and head to your right to the Lost Sector. (Look for a group of boulders with dead trees scattered around them.)
- This will lead you into a network of caves known as The Weep. Clean out the Lost Sector as usual, taking out the boss — Rannix, Drenched Captain — and collecting the loot from the chest at the end. (Note that you won’t have to bother with shooting the enemy supplies anymore, since they no longer reward you with tokens.)
- Above the loot chest, you’ll see a pathway out of the Lost Sector. Clamber up those rocks and make your way out of The Weep; you’ll know you’ve gone far enough when you see the Winding Cove location pop up in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- At that point, simply turn around and go back the way you came. You’ll soon end up right above the Lost Sector’s loot chest. Amazingly, you’ll be able to claim the treasures within — including three faction tokens — without even having to defeat the Captain again.
In his video explaining the farming method, Houndish says he was able to open the chest once every 20-30 seconds. He racked up 140 tokens in just 15-20 minutes, so in an hour of farming, it would be possible to reach the Faction Rally cap of 400 tokens (each package costs 20 tokens, and you’re limited to 20 packages during the event).
As exploits go, this is an extraordinarily easy and, well, exploitative one — so expect Bungie to put the kibosh on it with a hotfix post-haste. In other words, you might want to take advantage of this strategy while you still can. This week’s Faction Rally runs from Nov. 7-13.
