The 100 Thieves esports organization has announced a brand-new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster. According to the team’s tweet and accompanying video, 100 Thieves will pick up the three players that were released from Immortals earlier this year, including Vito “KNG” Giuseppe.
The team will include Giuseppe’s former Immortals teammates Henrique “Hen1” Teles and Lucas “Lucas1” Teles, which will give 100 Thieves access to the Immortals qualification spot for the Eleague Major in January. Joining those players on 100 Thieves will be veteran players, Lincoln “fnx” Lau and Bruno “Bit” Lima.
Giuseppe was released from the Immortals roster earlier this year following a suspension for a tweeted death threat to a player on an opposing team, as well as failing to attend a team meeting during his suspension. The Teles brothers left the team shortly after in an attempt to join Giuseppe on his next team and retain control of the Immortals qualification spot, which is given to a majority of the players should a team disband. Addressing these issues in the announcement video, team CEO Matthew Haag said, “Although the events that took place with some of these guys over the last several months were very, very serious, I just don’t think it should ruin their careers.”
The 100 Thieves organizations is run by former Call of Duty professional player Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag. 100 Thieves was originally known for its Call of Duty team, however, the organization recently expanded thanks to a partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA franchise. Since then, 100 Thieves started a League of Legends team as part of Riot Games’ ten permanent NA LCS franchises.
After briefly attempting to put together a competitive roster — a process that can be seen on the ESL Bootcamp series on Hulu — Immortals chose to discontinue its CS:GO roster for the foreseeable future, following some of their remaining players receiving offers to join other teams. 100 Thieves will play its first matches together as a team at the Eleague Major qualifier, which starts on Jan. 12.
