Like a phoenix (CR 7), the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie has risen from the ashes of yet another corporate restructuring to greater heights, snagging a deal with Paramount and a release date of October 1, 2021.
The D&D movie has been in some stage of pre-production since 2015, when a legal settlement paved the way for Wizards of the Coast to begin work with Warner Bros. on preproduction. The project got as far as to begin negotiations with actor Ansel Elgort to play the lead. But, as of fall of 2016, there wasn’t much to report.
This October marked another new beginning for the movie, when Hasbro restructured its Allspark Pictures and renewed an exclusive production deal with Paramount. Warner Bros. is out of the picture, and Paramount’s setting of a release date indicates a commitment to seeing the project through.
After all, scheduling the D&D session is 70 percent of the work.
