Not great, but not bad

A new year is almost upon us, and Microsoft is kicking it off with a decent but unspectacular lineup of Xbox Games With Gold titles for January.

The month will begin with The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 3, NeocoreGames’ 2015 conclusion to its Dracula trilogy. It will be available free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers all month long on Xbox One. The other Xbox One game for the month is Zombi, the 2015 current-generation port of Ubisoft Montpellier’s Wii U launch title ZombiU. That one will go free from Jan. 16 through Feb. 15.

On the Xbox 360 side, Gold members will be able to download Tomb Raider: Underworld free from Jan. 1-15. Crystal Dynamics’ well-received sequel to Tomb Raider: Legend was released in November 2008. During the second half of January, the free Xbox 360 game will be the original Army of Two from EA Montreal, which launched in March 2008. As always, both Xbox 360 titles are playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

Update (Jan. 2, 2018): The first two January games are now free via Games with Gold.

Update (Jan. 15): Army of Two and Zombi are now free, and today is the last day to snag January’s Tomb Raider: Underworld and December’s Back to the Future: The Game.
