Publisher THQ Nordic just revealed (a little earlier than planned) a new survival game set in the “the cold and deadly world of an apocalyptic winter” called Fade to Silence. The game, developed by Black Forest Games, is set to come to Steam Early Access next week on Dec. 14.

“Can you survive in an environment of unrelenting winter, fighting not only hunger and monsters, but also nature itself?” the game’s official description asks.

In Fade to Silence, players will assume the role of a man named Ash, “a natural but tormented leader.” Players will attempt to survive in a frozen wasteland while establishing a refuge for survival ... while also fighting eldritch horrors, according to the game’s description.

THQ Nordic says Fade to Silence will be a “complex, character-driven, group survival experience.” Players will have to decide which fellow survivors they’ll welcome into their refuge and who they’ll leave behind. The company stressed that the game’s weather system will play a major role in its gameplay.

“The dynamic weather system adds to the immersion of survival in a cold, corrupted world,” the game’s description reads. “Survival depends on how well the players read weather patterns, and if they come to the right conclusion - look for shelter or press home. The dynamic snow displacement leaves a realistic path by both player character and NPC. This telltale sign will tell you regions where it is good to hunt and regions where monsters are roaming.”
