Watch the creepy trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, the live-action adaptation of a classic manga

From Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s next big sci-fi picture, Alita: Battle Angel, has its first trailer.

Alita: Battle Angel is based on Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita manga. The manga, released in 1990, is set in a cyberpunk future where Alita, a discarded cyborg, is discovered by a cybernetic doctor who restores her. Left with only a few discarded memories of who she was, Alita becomes a bounty hunter as she tries to remember everything that happened to her in a past life.

The manga led to a couple of spinoffs: Battle Angel Alita: Last Order and Gunnm: Mars Chronicle. Cameron, who is set to produce the film, has said in the past he plans to focus on the core of the story, and include aspects of a fictional sport known as Motorball, which was seen in the third and fourth volumes of the manga.

Rodriguez, best known for Sin City, Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn and Machete, is set to direct. Alita: Battle Angel will be released on July 20, 2018.
