PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was nominated for a few accolades last night during the annual Game Awards, but the game’s only award wasn’t handed out during the show.
Upon realizing that The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley and his co-presenters didn’t announce the award for Best Multiplayer last night, Polygon followed up with Keighley this morning. Keighley confirmed via email that Battlegrounds did win the award for Best Multiplayer Game, beating out competition from Destiny 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Fortnite and Call of Duty: World War II. Keighley also apologized for the delay.
Battlegrounds was also nominated for Best Ongoing Game, which it lost to Overwatch, and Game of the Year, which was awarded to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Developer PUBG Corp. debuted a new trailer for Battlegrounds’ latest map, Miramar, which is set in a desert-like environment. The Miramar map is available to play now.
PUBG Corp used The Game Awards to announce the release date of Battlegrounds’ full release on Dec. 20.
