Helen Mirren will have a very important, potentially villainous role in Universal’s upcoming Fate of the Furious.
Luke Evans, who played the paramilitary trained criminal Owen Shaw in Fast and Furious 6, sat down with Yahoo! Movies to talk about his upcoming movie Beauty and the Beast. During the interview, he also answered a few questions about Fate of the Furious. Evans was last seen in a coma in Furious 7 after his character fell from a plane at the end of Fast & Furious 6. When asked if he was going to be in the eighth movie, Evans said he couldn’t say, but did add that he has a good ally on his side in the form of Mirren.
Evans revealed that Mirren will play Shaw’s mother, and while he may or may not be in it, Mirren will appear beside Jason Statham, who plays Owen’s older brother, Deckard.
“He’s in a military hospital because he’s the most wanted man in the world, but he’s got a very powerful brother, and he’s now got a mum as well, who’s played by Helen Mirren,” Evans said.
Mirren previously confirmed that while she will be apart of the film, it won’t be a major role. Alongside Mirren, Mad Max: Fury Road actor Charlize Theron will also join Fate of the Furious as a villain. Theron will play Cipher, who appears to bring main character Dominic Toretto over to her side and acting out against his family.
The Fate of the Furious will be released on April 14, 2017.
