Ghost in the Shell Super Bowl teaser goes behind the Major’s mask

First of many Super Bowl spots

The Super Bowl spot for Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell adaptation doesn’t feature much new footage, but there is a pretty cool scene at the very end.

Most of the footage in the 30-second video above is from the first couple of trailers the studio has already released, but the final scene features Scarlett Johansson’s Major without a portion of her face. The Major was transformed into a cyborg when she was younger following a traumatic accident that left her in a full-body prosthesis. In the trailer, that prosthesis can be seen being taken apart and put back together again.

Paramount released the first trailer for Ghost in the Shell during an event for the movie in Tokyo in November. Fan reaction to the trailer was mixed, with some condoning director Rupert Sanders’ commitment to the original source material and others arguing it felt like a blatant lift of the original anime series.

Ghost in the Shell, which also stars Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano and Michael Pitt, will be released on March 31.
